From the Jewellery Box: Alex Monroe and Pamela Love
Two jewellery designers focusing on the details of the natural world are Alex Monroe and Pamela Love, although their styles are very different. Described as “slightly quirky, sometimes cute, but always very feminine”, Alex Monroe’s jewellery is delicate, drawing inspiration from English hedgerows and incorporating the most intricate butterflies and flowers. Pamela Love’s style is a lot bolder in comparison, with a ritualistic aspect to the rock crystals hanging from pendants, and claws crafted from gold, silver and bronze.
Pictured are two pieces which have made it into my jewellery box, an Alex Monroe bracelet and a ring from Pamela Love’s collection for Zac Posen. The level of detail which has been put into both pieces is absolutely stunning. The bracelet is a silver branch with a tiny, 8ct gold swallow, whereas the ring is a real statement piece. Rose-gold plated, the large flower has a pretty vicious silver spike in the middle to toughen it up, and balance of pretty and edgy is just right.
