Fashion Week Trends: Velvet Men
Velvet has been a key feature in womenswear trends this winter but now it seems menswear fabrics are going all touchy feely as well. From fur at Burberry Prorsum, fine knits at Costume National, and suede and shearling at Salvatore Ferragamo, designers are using fabrics for Autumn/Winter 2011 that you can’t help but want to touch.
I have a lot of love for velvet and so I’m pleased to see it making an appearance on the menswear catwalks. Hidden under layers at John Varvatos, providing casual elegance at Bottega Veneta and cut into stunning tuxedos at Roberto Cavalli and Dolce and Gabbana, velvet is versatile and adds a touch of opulence. Blacks seem even richer and silk velvets particularly stand out, iridescent under bright lights and soft to the touch.
