New York Fashion Week: Alexander Wang
One of fashion’s brightest new talents, Alexander Wang really needs to stop designing beautiful clothes that I want in my wardrobe! My purse strings are stretching to his ‘T’ range but the mainline is a far-off dream.
I lusted after a burgundy velvet and black lace dress (as well as a cropped lace shirt with velvet cuffs) in his Autum/Winter 2010 collection and now, after giving black a miss for a season, Alexander Wang is back to his old tricks, with the most delectable sheer black blouses and slinky, slashed skirts. Yet his Autumn/Winter 2011 collection offers so much more than cleverly deconstructed tuxedos, with the parka looking like a source of inspiration for oversized outerwear. Sporty details add intrigue to elegant pieces, while a luxe loungewear aesthetic is fully tongue-in-cheek but has moments of crossing over into pure beauty. I have no idea why or how it works but the peach piece, above centre, is simply stunning.
