Fashion Loves: Vivienne Westwood for Comic Relief
As if all the awards hype wasn’t enough, it’s that time of year again when we’re all encouraged to “Do Something Funny for Money” in aid of Comic Relief. The annual Red Nose Day is falling on March 18th when all sorts of shenanigans will be taking place, from sponsored cream cake throwing, to attempts to attach novelty red noses to pets. Probably.
One thing which has already set me off in fits of giggles is Vivienne Westwood’s t-shirts for the event. Featuring characters from Blackadder - a very silly, iconic and often implausible British comedy - wearing red noses and framed pretty as a picture, all I can think of when looking at the t-shirts is quotes from the series. Cue the Blackadder theme tune on repeat, Baldrick’s war poem where the word “boom” is repeated innumerable times and something to do with a “turnip shaped like a thingy”…
Most of the humour will be lost on anyone who isn’t familiar with Blackadder but for me these t-shirts are priceless. Only problem is, I can’t decide between Edmund Blackadder looking smug or Queenie looking cheeky, as though she’s about to say “off with his head”.
